Men's Hanwag Tashi Yak Leather Hiking Boots
The Hanwag Tashi is built for those who appreciate traditional craftmanship and attention to detail with a hiking or trekking boot. The Tashi is made with a full-grain, Tibetan yak leather outer. Yak leather is thick and durable, but soft to the touch and comfortable to wear. The Tashi is lined with chromium-free leather, which is safe for sensitive skin. The boot is constructed with a true double-stitch process and has a Vibram outsole for increased durability and stability.
Hanwag's process for double-stitch construction is the same they've used for 90 years, at their factory near Munich, Germany.
What characterizes the genuine double-stitch technique is two rows of stitching through the upper — the first connecting the upper to the rib of the insole (a special lip on the insole specifically for double-stitching), and the second connecting the upper to the midsole. The benefit of using this traditional technique is that it is much stronger than gluing, and makes the boot extremely robust, stable, and possible to re-sole.
Hanwag has worked closely with a tannery in Tibet while developing their yak leather. Along with sourcing high quality leather, they are committed to socially and environmentally sustainable production. More information about Hanwag's yak leather program can be found here.
